Aquatic animal disease

We deliver scientific advice for the development of Defra policy on aquatic animal disease.

We integrate the statutory work of the Fish Health Inspectorate with a broad-based diagnostic capability. Using our highly experienced staff and well-equipped custom-built laboratories and tank facilities, we undertake a portfolio of R&D contracts and provide assessments of aquaculture products for a variety of commercial customers.

Our work is recognised internationally and nationally through National Reference Laboratory (NRL), European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) designations for fish, bivalve molluscs and crustacean diseases.
